Gus Rancatore was born in Staten Island, NY. He grew up eating speckled vanilla ice cream from Breyer's and ice cream cakes from Staten Island's own Seduto's.
On a trip to Lawrence, Massachusetts, he discovered Chocolate Chip ice cream at the long-lost Wasmaco's and was never to be distracted from eating and eventually making ice cream. At Steve's Ice Cream in Somerville, Ma. he would happily double the amount of chips mixed into his ice cream and add a ladle of hot fudge.
